Earthquake in Delhi

Tremendous earthquake tremors felt in Delhi-NCR. According to the National Center for Seismology, an earthquake of magnitude 6.2 occurred in Nepal at a depth of 5 km. The earthquake was also felt in parts of India, including the capital New Delhi and surrounding areas. People came out of homes and office blocks in parts of New Delhi. There were no immediate reports of damage in India or Nepal.

National Seismology Centre scientist Sanjay Kumar Prajapati said, “The earthquake occurred in western Nepal, which is an area near our Uttarakhand region… It was a 6.2 magnitude earthquake which was at a shallow depth of 5 km. We have recorded two tremors… In Delhi region, the intensity was 3… We have received feedback from people that it was felt in Uttarakhand, Punjab, Delhi, Lucknow region, Jaipur region. Even in Ahmedabad area, some people are telling us that they felt it there…”

On Tuesday, earthquake tremors were felt in Uttarakhand including some parts of Dehradun and Pithoragarh.

The National Center for Seismology said the earthquake in Nepal was at a depth of 5 km.

In June, earthquake tremors were felt in the Delhi-NCR region and parts of North India. According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre, (EMSC), an earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale struck 30 km southeast of Kishtwar in Jammu and Kashmir. The tremors were felt for about 20 seconds.
